When Genuine "Working In Partnership" With Customers Pays Dividends

The term "working in partnership," with customers in particular, is banded round a lot in all industry, but we have recently supplied a vehicle where by the term is a true reflection of the design process LCVT with the customer went through.

The customer came to the table with an idea of what they wanted, and a set of key criteria, and in working together we produced the vehicle which the customer had envisaged, and surpassed his expectations.

The correspondence below was sent to me yesterday and I'd like to reiterate what is written. My colleagues who actually built the vehicle are the ones who need the praise as without their skills we would not have ended up with the vehicle which the customer now has taken delivery of.

This was what the customer wrote

"I can confirm the vehicle has been received extremely well and all those that have seen it and had witnessed how it is loaded and unloaded have been very pleased. All I can add is that from when we approached LCVT and yourself with the concept and what we were looking to achieve, your support and dedication to the project has been exceptional, I would also like to thank your team in the factory who also took great pride and dedication in producing exactly what was required.

As you know the great advantage of the vehicle is its payload capacity, we have achieved all that we need to carry upon the vehicle with 120kgs spare capacity, there is nothing else available in the 3.5t van range that could of achieved this vital requirement.

I look forward to working with LCVT in the future when we require other vehicles of this type.
Please pass on my thanks to all your team".

The beavertail side tipper body

September 2023

Ultimate Dual-Purpose Vehicle

LCVT Ltd, worked in partnership with a national grounds maintenance company to develop the beavertail side tipper body to address 2 key challenges faced by the sector. The first being younger people coming into the sector not having the necessary licence classification to be able to tow a trailer unless put through driving training and a trailer test, and secondly the under utilisation of beavertail bodies, used to move machines to site, having to be stood up in the winter months due to commercial mowers not needing to be transported.

The unique innovative aluminium body developed by LCVT addresses both the above problems. With the ability to carry up to 1,200kg (dependant on base vehicle) and with removable caged sides (being part of a comprehensive options list) for the carrying of winter waste the vehicle offers all year-round utilisation, while having a GVW of 3,500kg meaning it can be driven on a standard car licence.

  • All year round utilisation
  • 1,200kg payload (dependant on base vehicle)
  • 3,500kg GVW
  • Aluminium body and tailgate
  • Full range of options available

A fantastic month for grounds maintenance vehicles going home

February has been a fantastic month for grounds maintenance vehicles going home. A customer, collected these 2 trucks today with a further 2 vehicles in build.

We worked with the client on the specification to ensure maximum flexibility, with the vehicles being specified with removable mesh sides, and a raised storage locker to allow the front cutting deck on the commercial mowers they operate to sit under the box.

Based on the Fiat Ducato which has been awarded Van of The Year. The vehicles have 1,300kg of payload and benefit from a number of innovative features unique to LCVT.

February 2022

Something a little bit special being collected today from our facility in Stourbridge.

The LCVT Grounds Maintenance Beavertail with side tipper body developed in partnership with Angus Lindsay of idverde, offers the best of both worlds.

The vehicle can be used during the spring/summer months to move mowers and equipment to site quickly and safely, while in the Autumn/winter period it becomes a conventional tipper.

The body design allows all year-round utilisation and can be fitted to all mainstream base vehicles.

LCVT are happy to build on free issue donor vehicles or we can supply the whole unit ensuring the purchasing process is easy with us managing the vehicle sourcing and movement.

LCVT supply seven Low Floor Traffic Management

LCVT have supplied seven Low Floor Traffic Management vehicles in the last month to an existing customer who required the capability to load both traffic lights at the rear of the vehicle while also having the ability to implement road closures with the fitting of a LP13.

The vehicles were also fitted with strobe lighting to the front and rear with storage lockers and telescopic fall arrest barriers. Having operated LCVT low floor vehicles for the past 2 years the customer and operatives had reaped the benefits of the concept from both an efficiency and flexibility prospective.

The base vehicles were Fiat Ducato with an extended 5 year/125,000 mile warranty on the drive train which allowed whole life costs to be calculated far more accurately. LCVT can offer both outright purchase and rentals options working with key partners.

LCVT Innovation Proves Resounding Success

When the engineering team at LCVT were given the lengthy wish list for the vehicle pictured they set about designing the unit from the ground up.

Although conceptually the vehicle was a traffic management truck, it needed to offer so much more.

The customer wanted a unit which offered side and rear loading could accommodate an LP13 had loads of secure storage for expensive equipment, while also being able to tow in access of 2,000kg and offer a high payload on top.

The donor vehicle decided upon was the Fiat Ducato with the latest Euro 6D 140ps engine which had a LCVT chassis conversion carried out to it. This allowed the wheelbase to be increased and a floor height achieved of 500mm.

lockers were designed which gave both storage for wet weather clothing, tools and expensive CCTV camera systems which needed to be carried on the vehicle. The ability to load easily from the side and rear off the vehicle was also a prerequisite as a generator and other specialist equipment was needed to be transported on a daily basis.

Finally, with a towing capacity of 2,300kg the LCVT unit was more than up to the job of delivering the specialist equipment to site that the operation needed.

LCVT Provide SRL Traffic Systems with a Transporter Solution

To support SRL’s expansion into VMS signage boards for the high speed sector, and the opening of their largest ITS depot in Romford, LCVT have delivered two bespoke 3,500kg transporters to assist in the speedy deployment of signage boards to site.

SRL have 29 depots throughout the UK & the republic of Ireland, and approached LCVT to design a vehicle which could deliver both their larger high speed Variable Message Signs and the smaller Smart Messenger units quickly and safely to site.

LCVT came up with a vehicle design using their proven chassis conversion, that not only offered the ability to transport 2 x high speed units, or 3 x Smart Messenger boards, or a combination of both.

The two vehicles utilise the latest Euro 6D 140ps Fiat Ducato drive train and have been taken with the Fiat 5 year/125,000 warranty option. The body has a number of innovative features including a unique low frame chassis conversion which has allowed a longer wheelbase to be fitted and a lower deck height than could be achieved on a conventional chassis cab.

idverde & LCVT Partnership Pays Dividends

LCVT Ltd a specialist light commercial body builder based in Peterborough, have worked in partnership with idverde, Europe’s leading grounds maintenance and landscaping service provider to develop and build a 3,500kg beavertail body which has the ability to not only carry commercial mowers during the summer period but also offer tipping capability during the winter period.

Side-Tipper-Body-Loaded-LR

The vehicle has a payload up to 1,280kg

The body which can be fitted to all mainstream chassis cabs, and has a number of unique, and innovative features. The vehicle has a payload up to 1,280kg of payload which was key to its design success. This allows it to carry a wide variety of commercial mowing machinery, and in the winter months proves invaluable to collect general waste and brush ensuring the vehicle is utilised all year round unlike the traditional beavertail which in most cases is parked up over the winter period.

The body sub-frame is a combination of Aluminium and Stainless Steel to ensure weight is kept to a minimum while giving structural strength where needed.

Another key feature of the vehicle is the extruded Aluminium floor which has a punched finish this offers exceptional grip for both machinery and operatives in all weather conditions.

The spring assisted tailgate is attached via a pair of compact maintenance free torsion hinges, has an aluminium frame, and a textured GRP mesh surface for ease of use and slip resistance properties.

Steve Elwell Sales & Marketing Director of LCVT commented “we have been lucky enough to have been a supplier of vehicles to idverde over a number of years and when we were approached by Angus Lindsay (Group Head of Assets and Fleet) to come up with a new design that improved the utilization of his beavertail fleet we worked closely together to find the Innovative solution we are now manufacturing. idverde have ordered a number of the new design, which are going to depots throughout the UK with more vehicles being planned as old vehicles come off fleet.

Construct-Equip-New-Vehicle-Investment

Construct-Equip's new LCVT Low Floor 3.5T vehicle

February 2020

Construct-Equip New Vehicle Investment

Construct Equip who have depots in Birmingham and Telford have purchased a new LCVT Low Floor 3.5T vehicle to operate out of their Birmingham depot.

The company has operated low floor vehicles for a number of years, alongside larger trucks, and reaped the benefits of the Low floor concept with regards flexibility and carrying capacity. When looking to replace an existing vehicle they were enthused by the fact the LCVT chassis conversion had been designed from the onset for a commercial application and therefore didn’t suffer the issues they’d experienced with their previous vehicles.

The Fiat Ducato based unit was specified with a 3.8M bed allowing Heras fence panels to be carried easily, a winch, so generators and heavier items on wheels could be winched onto the back of the vehicle and a combination tow ball with tachograph was included so heavier plant and lighting towers could be towed, this was another major plus with the LCVT vehicle in that it could tow 2,300kg some 300kg more than its direct competitor.

Glynn Johns, Construct Equip Branch Manager, Birmingham commented; the initial feedback from the driver of the vehicle is really positive, the ride quality of the LCVT vehicle is far superior to our other low floor vehicles and it generally seems to suit the application far better.

Cox Hire See the Immediate Benefits of their New LCVT Low Floor Truck

Cox Hire Ltd based in Dudley have in the last couple of weeks taken delivery of their new LCVT Low Floor Tool Hire vehicle and are already reaping the benefits.

The vehicle based on the Fiat Ducato was specified with a 3.6 metre bed and a spring assisted tailgate. With a ribbed Aluminium floor and drop sides, the vehicle has the ability to carry the full range of light plant and tools which Cox have available to hire. Low level access platforms were a key item which needed to go on the back of the vehicle and this has proved no issue with the units being able to be driven straight on.

Cox_Hire_3

Steve Elwell handing over the keys of the vehicle to Jon Richmond

Jon Richmond (Director at Cox Hire) Commented; we needed to replace one of our traditional drop side trucks, and wanted to move away from towing. We spoke to LCVT and liked the fact the chassis was designed specifically for commercial applications and the original O.E suspension was retained. We have only had the vehicle for a couple of weeks but already it is proving extremely flexible carrying all our light plant and even when fully loaded seems more than capable.

Steve Elwell (Sales Director LCVT) commented; Jon contacted us having seen our advert in Executive Hire News and it’s fantastic to hear that the vehicle is proving so successful. We have some unique design features in the body but the real important part is the chassis design and the way in which it interfaces with the cab. An added bonus is the use of the original equipment rear suspension which means the ride quality is not overly hard when the vehicle is empty.

Enfield Recovery Replace LCVT Vehicles With the Same

Enfield Recovery who have depots in St Neots and Newton Abbot have taken delivery of the first of two new 3,500kg recovery trucks from LCVT replacing vehicles purchased off LCVT eighteen months ago.

The vehicles based on the Fiat Ducato have been specified with a host of options including; LCVT’S unique punched aluminium floor (with a solid centre section to allow the recovery of motorbikes), T-MAX EW6500 winch with remote, LED light bar, and LED repeater lights to the sides, front, and rear.

Graham Jeffery Director at Enfield Recovery commented “the 2 trucks we took from LCVT 18 months ago have proved fantastic assets. With margins being so tight within the industry, when you can send a 3.5 ton truck instead of a 7.5 ton truck on a recovery the cost savings are considerable. We have covered close to 100,000 miles in both existing vehicles over the 18 months we have had them which demonstrates just how hard we work them. I made the decision to replace both vehicles while they still have some manufacturer warranty on them, and order the same vehicle again from LCVT with just one change. We have added LED repeater lights all-round the vehicle to ensure when the trucks are out on a recovery they are as visible as possible to all other road users. The safety of my technicians when they are out in all weathers recovering vehicles is paramount.

BJB Hire Centre in Leicester Take Delivery of a LCVT Low Floor Tool Hire Vehicle.

BJB Hire Centre in Thurmaston, Leicester have taken delivery of a LCVT low floor vehicle for delivery of a wide range of hire equipment from 1.5 ton mini diggers, to Heras fence panels. The vehicle was specified with air conditioning and driver’s suspension seat in the cab and individual ramps to ensure maximum carrying capacity on the vehicle.

Russ Conway (Director of BJB) Commented

"we have used low floor vehicles for some years and when approached by LCVT who explained the design benefits of their vehicle, in particular the way in which the cab and chassis interface, we liked what we saw, and ordered a vehicle.

It is the little things with reference to the body design which make all the difference on a day to day bases, and what appealed to us on the LCVT product was the slightly wider body which helps when carrying fence panels and the small beavertail on the back of the vehicle which means it is far easier to load low level access platforms"

Steve Elwell (Sales & Marketing Director LCVT) commented:

"BJB are a perfect example of a Tool Hire company who have been forward thinking and reaped the benefits offered by the low floor concept. The Tool Hire sector is the hardest environment in which a vehicle of this type can be put to work in. The stop start nature of the job and working at its gross vehicle weight the majority of the time means that the chassis and cab interface has historically been a weak point, but the LCVT design with its engineered shoe, means this area is possibly stronger than a factory built chassis"

LCVT Carry Out Successful Tow Bar Type Approval Testing

LCVT have carried out a comprehensive design and development program on the low frame chassis design which they offer, resulting in the successful testing of a typed approved tow bar assembly.

The system has been approved to tow 2,300kg when fitted to a 3.5 ton vehicle which is 300kg more than its main competitor. The sub structure has been designed in such a way that it can be fitted in a number of positions on the chassis depending on the application of the finished vehicle.

Steve Hendley (Managing Director at LCVT) commented:

"This project is the perfect example of what LCVT are good at; listening to what our customers need and coming up with a solution. Two of our rapidly expanding markets, Tool Hire and Traffic Management have a need to tow.

We have not only designed a tow bar assembly which offers 300kg more capacity than our competition, but also a unit which is flexible reference its positioning on the back of the vehicle depending on the final application and this is crucial when looking at ground clearance on low floor chassis"

Richmond Plant Hire Reap the Benefits of LCVT Low Floor Vehicle

Richmond Plant Hire who operate out of depots in Newark and Kirby in Ashfield took delivery of their LCVT 3.5 ton Fiat based Low Floor vehicle 6 months ago and have nothing but praise for the vehicle since putting it on fleet.

The vehicle, based on the Fiat Ducato 2.3 litre chassis cab has a 3,800mm body with a spring assisted tailgate at the rear allowing light plant, water bowsers, fencing and dumpers to be delivered easily and quickly to customers.

Having replaced a traditional high floor chassis cab with a drop side body and tail lift the vehicle has proven a resounding success with both the company and driver. Loading of all equipment is both safer and quicker, in particular fencing where the vehicles low floor and high payload is a massive plus.

Dave Denby (General Manager) Richmond Plant Hire comment “since taking delivery of the vehicle back in October last year we have found it to be a resounding success. The combination of payload and floor height means we can deliver far more equipment on the vehicle than our traditional drop side truck and the driver loves the quicker and safer loading which is key for us”

Steve Elwell (Sales & Marketing Director LCVT) commented “it’s a massive endorsement of the product when a well-established company like Richmond Plant Hire find our vehicle so beneficial to their operation. We recognised when developing the product for the hire market, how demanding the application would be and one of the key features of the vehicle is the way the chassis connects to the cab as this is a crucial area where problems can be had, and have been experienced with other manufacturers”

June 2018

Hirelink (UK) Midlands Ltd Take Delivery of LCVT Vehicle

Hirelink (UK) Midlands Ltd has taken delivery of an LCVT Low Floor Tool Hire vehicle.

Based on the latest Fiat Ducato 2.3 litre 130ps Euro 6 chassis cab, the vehicle has a 3.8 metre body, built on LCVT's low floor chassis conversion which has been designed for exactly this type of commercial application.

The vehicle was specified with a full width tailgate, recessed front winch, and lashing points either side of the front bulkhead, to allow items such as gas bottles to be secured easily.

The Fiat Ducato was the preferred donor vehicle due to the fact it did not need Ad Blue to meet Euro 6 regulations, which meant a higher payload and reduced running costs. The fact the vehicle could be maintained by a commercial dealer network was also a major advantage.

Jason Leeney (Director) Commented; “we have a number of low floor vehicles within our fleet and although we have had some problems with the conversion the concept is ideal for our application. Having seen the way LCVT interface their chassis with the base vehicle I was more than happy to order a vehicle to see how it performs”
